A
Chance for Esperanza
La
oportunidad de Esperanza
by
Alma Flor Ada and Pam Schiller
In this real-life story of courage and solidarity, an
ecological group in
Mexico works to save endangered species. A newly hatched turtle’s struggle
to
make it to the safety of the ocen waters lead the team to name her Esperanza (Hope).
Author’s
Note :
I was
delighted when Pam Schiller told me this true story and
asked me to
co-author it with her. She wanted to make her newly born grandson Austin a
character in the story which for the rest is true. I loved the idea because I have used
the names of my children repeteadly in my stories. The interest of teachers
and children in this book is indeed a continuous source
of hope
that we will, as we must, protect the planet we live in and the species with
whom we share it.
